 Trebuchet

Velocity - Distance - Time
  • Speed (Velocity) is a change in distance per unit time. SI unit: meters per second (m/s or (ms-1)
  • Distance is a length. SI unit: meters (m)
  • Time is needed for things to change. SI unit: second (s)

Using the S,D,T Triangle

Distance Time Graphs

Acceleration - Velocity - Time
  • Acceleration is a change of speed (velocity) per unit time. SI unit: meters per second per second or meters per second squared (ms-2)
  • Speed (Velocity) is a change in distance per unit time. SI unit: meters per second (m/s or ms-1)
  • Time is needed for things to change. SI unit: second (s)

Optimisation of Trebuchet:
  1. The length of the payload arm should be 3.75 times longer than the counterweight arm.
  2. The length of the sling should be the same length as thepayload arm.
  3. The initial angle between the counterweight arm and the support should be 45 degrees at launch.
  4. The counterweight needs to be 133 times as heavy as your intended projectile.
